Doctor connects the dots on better care, better health for patients
Dr. Kyle Etzkorn, a gastroenterologist at Borland-Groover Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., provides comprehensive care for patients with a wide variety of gastrointestinal ailments, including hepatitis, gallbladder disease and pancreatitis. MissionPoint Health Partners have helped him give patients guidance, support and education as they navigate their healthcare plan.
“MissionPoint Health Partners has made a significant impact in decreasing hospitalization and helping to make diagnoses and wellness recommendations more easily,” he says. “The use of care coordination has really optimized the patient experience, especially for patients who have chronic diseases. It offers the ability to catch people before they get sick or need to be hospitalized.”
People with chronic diseases often experience difficulties in taking prescribed medications or sticking to a wellness plan. Dr. Etzkorn works with patients to identify goals and gain access to resources that will help them achieve better health.
“We can not only help them to eat better and exercise, but also provide life coaches, transportation and other resources that can help with any physical and social issues,” he says.
Sharing a common goal
A primary care physician knows patients well enough to make recommendations, and patients feel comfortable enough to ask questions about lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise. That type of relationship is invaluable, says Dr. Etzkorn, especially at a time when people may be overwhelmed by their options.
“This is a wonderful time for patients. They have access to so much online information and knowledge. But that can be daunting as well,” he says. “That’s where a primary care physician comes in, helping people to feel empowered and be informed through every stage of their healthcare.” And for that reason, if he sees a patient who doesn’t have a primary care physician, he strongly recommends that they do so.
“Our goal is to look at the patient as a whole and not just a disease. We want to give people the best chance of staying healthy.”
