A Member Story: Billy Clark

Health Partners combine efforts to provide member with total range of support

As a career healthcare professional, Billy Clark knew what was in store for her last December when she was told she needed both knees replaced. What she didn’t know was that input from a MissionPoint Health Partner would greatly enhance her recovery.

A registered nurse and registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer, Billy was ready for the procedure itself, as well as the two-day hospital stay, then the follow-up rehab inpatient and outpatient process. She had been in contact with Member Services, but not a Health Partner, so she was intrigued — and a bit of a know-it-all — when she first heard from Health Partner Dana Wilson.

“She wanted to follow up and make sure I had all my doctor’s appointments lined up, that I was following my prescription directions, things like that,” Billy recalls. “I knew I was doing all that just fine, so I was about to tell her she didn’t need to call me any more when she asked if there was anything else she could do for me. All through my physical therapy I had been thinking about how I’d love to go to the YMCA on days when I wasn’t in therapy. I really wanted to ride their bicycles to work on my knees.”

Trial Program Is Perfect Fit

As it turns out, MissionPoint has a coupon program in place that allows members to try the YMCA for three months as a full member. Dana quickly got one out to Billy, who wasted no time signing up.

“It’s been the greatest thing,” says Billy, who continued her membership once the coupon had expired.

“I began going every day that I didn’t have therapy, and that extra time really helped not just my knees, but my whole thought process around getting better. You’re in there with people who are exercising, and a lot of them are older so you know it’s for their health, not just to develop a better body.”

As she continues working her way back to full strength, Billy says that MissionPoint was able to help her in a way she hadn’t thought of, and so became a valuable asset to her healing process.

“I’m a nurse, and I thought I could handle my own recovery,” she says. “But having someone reach out to me with an option like this, and giving me the ability to try something and see if I liked it, was great. I got back into exercising, which I love, and it has really made a difference in my recovery.”
