What is Mindfulness Meditation?

Meditation is a means of transforming the mind, and has been a valuable tool for reducing anxiety and improving well-being for centuries. Mindfulness is being aware of the present and accepting your thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement. Combined, mindfulness meditation practices are techniques that encourage and develop concentration, clarity, emotional positivity, and a calm understanding of the world around you.

Practicing mindfulness meditation can help you cultivate a new, more positive way of being. It can also help you deal with stressors in your life.

Sitting Positions Demonstration Video

In this video, Health Partner Brian Woolworth walks you through several seated positions in which to practice mindfulness meditation. One of the best things about meditation is that it doesn’t require any equipment, and can be tailored to your environment and needs. This video is merely a guide, so do not let any physical limitations keep you from establishing a meditation practice.

Listen While You Meditate

Brian has narrated several sessions to aide you in your meditation. Listen to these narrations as a guide as you practice mindfulness meditation. Each audio file is available for download, which you can play on a device of your choosing.

Platform to Awareness

This meditation is an invitation to visualize a place of peace, safety and compassion. It will guide you to a place where you can experience relaxation, oneness and non-judgmental acceptance.

Breath-Anchored Sitting Practice

This guided meditation on the breath will help you to establish a formal sitting meditation practice. It is approximately ten minutes, and has interval bells each minute to gently remind you to bring your attention back to the breath. It can also be a great reminder for self-compassion and accessing peace throughout our busy lives.

Body Scan

This is a brief version of the body scan. In less than ten minutes, you can do a full body check-in.  Experience the body’s sensations and their relationship to emotions. This exercise is wonderful in shifting the focus of your attention as you move to each area.
